New York Times: Colorado’s Backcountry Ski Huts - Jay's Cabin

"Backcountry skiing has always been demanding, the runs both primal and serene. Within the 10th Mountain Division hut system that runs between Vail and Aspen, and includes Jay’s Cabin, the sport is something else again: accessible. With 350 miles of routes connecting 31 huts, some a mere two or three miles from the trailhead — a few with amenities like wood-fired saunas, electricity and even flush toilets — the 10th Mountain huts are a fixture in Colorado, with few vacancies from January through March."
